THE EXPERIENCE

Get ready for Penelope Spheeris’ talk at the Tomorrow Theater with one of her more family-friendly films: Wayne’s World! Cartoonist Jack Kent (Sketchy People, Gulls, and Minus Tide) will kick off the evening with a group drawing session of scenes from the movie. We’ll have pencils & paper, and feel free to bring your personal stash of sketching supplies.
🤘Sketchy time, excellent 🤘

ON SCREEN: Wayne’s World

1992. Directed by Penelope Spheeris. Runtime: 94 minutes. Rated PG-13.
The adventures of two amiably aimless metal-head friends, Wayne and Garth. From Wayne’s basement, the pair broadcast a talk-show called “Wayne’s World” on local public access television. The show comes to the attention of a sleazy network executive who wants to produce a big-budget version of “Wayne’s World”—and he also wants Wayne’s girlfriend, a rock singer named Cassandra. Wayne and Garth have to battle the executive not only to save their show, but also Cassandra.

ON STAGE: Jack Kent with Sketchy Time, Excellent!

Jack grew up in Newport, Oregon and he loves the rain. He moved to Portland in 1999 and has since based his comic, Sketchy People, on the people from Portland. Aside from drawing three comics, Jack is also a guitarist and vocalist. His latest musical endeavor is Flawker Rawker. This is a joke band that brings the band from his Gulls comic to life. Squawk n’ Roll! Sketchy People, Gulls, and Minus Tide are three very different comics. Jack is a busy beaver and loves to be immersed in all things comics.
