THE EXPERIENCE

Set in Brooklyn, NY during the unprecedented summer of 2020, this film explores the emotional entanglements driving the character’s behaviors and responses to the COVID crisis. Director Theda Hammel skillfully captures the mood of that time period in this pandemic comedy, filmed without any on-screen Zoom footage.

We know diving back into the summer of 2020 can be…anxiety inducing! Yoga instructor Sahar Yarjani will lead a guided chair yoga session before the film.

ON SCREEN: Stress Positions

2024. Directed by Theda Hammel. Runtime: 95 minutes. Not Rated.
Terry Goon (John Early) is keeping strict quarantine in his ex-husband’s Brooklyn brownstone while caring for his nephew Bahlul, a 19-year-old model from Morocco, who is bedridden after an electric scooter accident. Unfortunately for Terry, everyone in his life wants to meet the model. The whole pack of them — including his reckless and outspoken best friend Karla (played by director/writer Theda Hammel) — descend on the dilapidated house, crowding the model, breaking Terry’s cherished rules, and putting his barely formed political convictions to the test.

ON STAGE: Chair yoga with Sahar Yarjani

Sahar (they/she) is a yoga, pilates and movement practitioner and facilitator. Born in Tehran, Iran and raised primarily in Vienna, Austria, Sahar’s practice and offerings are informed by their diasporic upbringing and rooted in their values of collective care, solidarity, abolition and true justice. They reject spiritual bypassing and believe we all have an obligation to remain present with and respond to the injustices of the world.
