THE EXPERIENCE
1990! 35 years ago! A year which continued to see a three-way standoff between the emerging alternative rock scene, next generation hip hop, and old fashioned 80s arena pop even as the no rules 90s assumed control over MTV. Complete with year-specific ads and trailers, we’ve got all the best music videos of three decades past. From Mazzy Star to MC Hammer, Sinead O’Connor to Sonic Youth, and everything in between, you just can’t touch this!
ON STAGE: ReRun Theater
Since December of 2011 ReRun Theater has been taking the small screen to the big screen. The TV Party as Cinema. Movie theaters generally have the noble task of presenting feature-length motion pictures, current and repertoire, as they were meant to be seen: on the big screen. They take shows originally intended for home viewing and present them bigger and louder than they’ve ever been shown before. Their primary goal is to exhibit classic, rare, or oddball television, complete with commercial interruptions. You are actually transported back in time to an era and a mindset. Some of it is quite bizarre, particularly when remembering that this was all designed and approved to be on network television, broadcast to American (and sometimes British) homes. Their “Year in Videos” sub series is specifically a presentation of music videos that were in heavy rotation during a given year decades past (either on MTV, Night Flight or some other video show or channel). Series programmed by The Phantom Hillbilly
