THE EXPERIENCE

Come early to buy some witchy herbs from Clary Sage Herbarium and listen to their special talk on sourcing as an active modality of weaving webs of relationship.

ON SCREEN: Practical Magic

1998. Directed by Griffin Dunne. Runtime: 104 minutes. Rated PG-13.

Sally and Gillian Owens, born into a magical family, have mostly avoided witchcraft themselves. But when Gillian’s vicious boyfriend, Jimmy Angelov, dies unexpectedly, the Owens sisters give themselves a crash course in hard magic. With policeman, Gary Hallet, growing suspicious, the girls struggle to resurrect Angelov — and unwittingly inject his corpse with an evil spirit that threatens to end their family line.

ON STAGE: Karma (Kara) Maymi of Clary Sage Herbarium

Karma (Kara) Maymi is of Puerto Rican descent, and grew up in Portland, Oregon. She traveled often from childhood through adulthood, experiences that deeply shape her work today. Initially a political scientist, she later transitioned into art and sex work before discovering a deeper calling.

One day, Karma wandered into ClarySage Herbarium and found herself captivated by the world of plant medicine. This discovery allowed her to weave together her spiritual, entrepreneurial, and community-focused paths. Today, she serves as the Steward and Owner of Clary Sage Herbarium Apothecary.

Karma is passionate about helping individuals ground themselves and find direction during this period of profound societal transformation, often referred to as “The Great Turning.” She advocates for engaging with capitalism in ways that are life-giving and generative, while fostering deeper connections with the earth and community. Her work centers on tending to both body and spirit through plant medicine, with a focus on the body’s lived experience as a source of healing and reconnection.
