THE EXPERIENCE
Join us for a night of Iranian dancing, film, and culture! Iran is culturally diverse and rich and Sahar will be sharing dance moves from just a handful of traditions, along with curated Iranian music videos from various time periods to enjoy and dance to. Afterwards we will screen the funny and beautiful portrait of a Muslim immigrant family, The Persian Version.
ON STAGE: Sahar Y
Sahar was born in Tehran, Iran and primarily raised in Vienna, Austria. Her practice and offerings are informed by her diasporic upbringing and rooted in values of collective care, solidarity, abolition, and true justice. She teaches yoga, Pilates, strength training, and aerial yoga full-time, and loves sharing movement practices with others. She does not believe movement or the right yoga class or Pilates session will solve all your problems or make the world a more just place, but she does believe that showing up for ourselves and our bodies, taking the time to take deep, intentional breaths, and moving our bodies will create discipline and ease within ourselves, allowing us to show up as our whole selves to better take on the injustices of the world. From a young age, she loved dancing to Iranian (and other SWANA) music and is excited to share music and dance from her home and birth country.
