THE EXPERIENCE

“The Language of Sneaker Design” is a captivating conversation series that delves into the minds of renowned sneaker designers, unraveling the secrets behind their enduring design aesthetic across diverse projects. In celebration of Future Now: Virtual Sneakers to Cutting-Edge Kicks (now on view at the Portland Art Museum), join us as we explore the intricate language of design and discover the inspiration and innovation that fuels their creative journey. Panelists include Ty DeHaven (HILOS) and Laurance Bass (Pensole Lewis College of Design), and will be moderated by Herbert Beauclere (Sneaker Week PDX).

 

ON STAGE:

 

Ty DeHaven, HILOS

Ty DeHaven is currently the Head of Product at HILOS, and previously held positions at Converse and Nike. With a background in footwear innovation and product development, Ty has a strong understanding of prototype development processes and transitioning concepts into production. Ty also has experience in marketing and building key account relationships in the golf industry. An adaptable professional with a high capacity for ambiguity, Ty excels in fast-paced R&D environments and is proficient in Adobe Creative Suite.

 

Laurance Bass, Creative Director of Pensole Lewis College of Design

Laurance Bass is a dynamic creative director who represents the vibrant spirit of Ohio. As a young African American women in the creative industry. Laurance’s work is fueled by her deep connection to black culture and spirituality, which shines through in her strong graphic designs. She effortlessly blends her personal experiences and heritage with contemporary design principles, creating visually captivating and culturally significant artwork. With a Bachelor’s degree in Fashion/Apparel Design & Product Strategy from the University of Cincinnati, she has honed her skills and expertise to become a leader at the first ever HBCU dedicated to design. In addition to her creative prowess, Laurance has been instrumental in leading successful campaigns to attract top talent for some of the largest footwear brands in the world. Her strategic vision and ability to connect with aspiring designers have been instrumental in shaping the industry’s landscape. Laurance’s passion for design extends beyond her professional endeavors. She actively engages with her community, advocating for diversity and inclusion within the creative industry. Through mentorship programs and speaking engagements, she inspires young creatives to pursue their dreams and break barriers. With her unique perspective and unwavering commitment to excellence, Laurance Bass continues to make a significant impact as the Creative Director at PENSOLE Lewis College. Her innovative designs, leadership skills, and advocacy for diversity make her a true force to be reckoned with in the world of footwear design.

 

Forest Pond, Founder: Never Home Music

Forest Pond aka DJ Nature is a multifaceted creative that blends his passion for music, strategy, and engineering to collaborate with some of the worlds largest global influences in sneaker culture. As a music consultant, Forest is the go-to artist for the industry’s top creative agencies to sonically brand world-class campaigns. His disruptive music label, Never Home Music specializes in creating sound distinction, insight, experience, and story with premier creative and production services. From defining and developing branded sounds with case studies, authentication, immersive learnings, and music supervision, to creating experiences with musical strategy, original music composition, sound design, post production / final mix, curation x playlisting, retail activations, and musical storytelling. His unique history in the music world, combined adaptation of the digital revolution, makes a perfect storm for bringing the music we love to the world stage.

Herbert Beauclere, Co-founder of Sneaker Week PDX

Herbert Beauclere is the co-founder of Sneaker Week PDX, a yearly festival that focuses on connecting the sneaker community to the footwear industry. This year’s Sneaker Week will be held July 26th – Aug. 1st.
