Could anything make Bottoms even better? How about a live Jiu Jitsu demo before the film?! Scout Tran, a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, will do a demo and short presentation to get everyone ready for this screening!

In this refreshingly unique comedy, two girls, PJ and Josie, start a fight club as a way to lose their virginities to cheerleaders. And their bizarre plan works! The fight club gains traction, and soon the most popular girls in school are beating each other up in the name of self-defense. But PJ and Josie find themselves in over their heads and in need of a way out before their plan is exposed.

Scout Tran
Scout (ey/em/eir) is an artist and educator, born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. Ey has won a Belle Foundation Award for music, and a Prism Award, an Ignatz Award and two Eisner nominations for comics. Eir sculptures have been commissioned by the SFMOMA and the Exploratorium, and has performed puppetry for the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago. Ey is a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, rides a pink motorcycle, and would love to see a world where trans folks are celebrated more for their endeavors than their inspirational sob stories.

Traction Project
Traction Project creates self-defense training for the most vulnerable LGBTQ people, who need to be careful about the repercussions of defending themselves. Leading this demonstration is Scout Tran, the instructor at Traction Project’s Portland classes, and the editor of A Self-Defense Study Guide for Trans Women* (2022, Silver Sprocket)
