THE EXPERIENCE
Set against the opulence of Aspen’s ultra-wealthy social circles, Year of the Fox is a gripping coming-of-age story that explores race, privilege, and identity through the eyes of a teenage girl caught between two worlds. Drawing from screenwriter Eliza Flug’s personal experiences and directed by Megan Griffiths (Eden, The Night Stalker), the film offers a nuanced portrait of adolescence, as Ivy confronts the unspoken rules and moral blind spots of the elite community she was raised in—but never truly felt part of.
Following the screening, there will be a Q&A with Director Megan Griffiths & Producer Lacey Leavitt Gray.
ON SCREEN: Year of the Fox
2023. Directed by Megan Griffiths. Runtime: 1 hour 37 minutes.
A biracial teenager who was adopted into extreme wealth by white parents, 17-year-old Ivy (Sarah Jeffery) finds herself navigating the fallout of her parents’ bitter divorce. Set adrift in Aspen’s bacchanalian party scene, Ivy’s previously idyllic world begins to unravel as she is plunged into a playground of toxicity where those with infinite wealth look to prey upon the young and innocent. In a society that allows men to dictate who she should be, Ivy must determine whether to follow the paths of her peers and the women before her or forge her way on her own terms.
Inspired by true events, veteran filmmaker Megan Griffiths and writer Eliza Flug’s searing depiction of a wealthy community in the 90’s providing cover for predatory behavior delves into the complexities of power, privilege, and personal agency. A resonant and timely story told through a personal lens, Year of the Fox explores the empowerment and danger of coming into your sexuality as a woman in our society.
