THE EXPERIENCE
Join us on 4/20 for a “half-baked” rock opera featuring two classic afterschool specials, “Stoned” and “The Day My Kid Went Punk.” They will be live-scored by Portland’s own provocative improv orchestra, Party Killer, renowned for their sonic invention, exotic instrumentation and mind-blowing performances.
“Art so high most listeners will never see the top” – Willamette Week
“Unholy Improv Terror” – Robert Ham (Paste, SPIN, Portland Mercury)
“Colossal” – Julian Cope (post-punk icon & esteemed musicologist)
ON SCREEN: Stoned & The Day My Kid Went Punk
Runtime: Each film is 33 minutes long with a 30 minute intermission in between.
ON STAGE: Party Killer
Seasoned by years of adventurous improv, Party Killer careens from the aerodynamic autobahn of Krautrock and the perilous peaks of Prog Rock to the unpaved avenues of Proto-Punk with almost inconceivable ease.
Fragments of influence as diverse as Can, King Crimson, Cabaret Voltaire, and The Birthday Party can be found in the mix. Sometimes a smidgen of The Stooges and Siouxsie as well, yet the overall effect is multidimensional, without obvious trivialities to sour the surprising mix. If you’re thrilled by the notion of a high-wire act choreographed by Kraftwerk, Nick Cave, and Robert Fripp, then Party Killer may be the band for you.
