THE EXPERIENCE

Join us for a restored 4K screening of The Wicker Man, hosted by local horror director and professional Wicker Man-enthusiast Hannah May Cumming!

Before the film, enjoy a slightly scholarly (but mostly fun) dive into the movie’s bizarre production, its surprising reception, and the age-old question: what really makes it a “cult” classic… and what makes a cult in general? We’ll be exploring the full spectrum – from Manson to MAGA… Jesus to Jim Jones…and everything in between!

Don your finest folky spring attire – flower crowns, pagan chic, papier-mâché animal heads, because costumes are very much encouraged. One lucky attendee will be crowned the May Queen on stage (no human sacrifice required… probably).

ON SCREEN: The Wicker Man

1972. Directed by Robin Hardy. Runtime: 1 hour 32 minutes. Rated R.

Police sergeant Neil Howie is called to an island village in search of a missing girl whom the locals claim never existed. The investigation is further complicated as Howie’s religious views clash with those of the island’s residents.

ON STAGE: Hannah May Cumming

Hannah May Cumming is a writer, director, and producer originally hailing from Liverpool, UK. She is most known for her short horror films Baby Fever (2022) and Fanatico (2019) both of which are platformed on WatchAlter.com, amassing hundreds of thousands of views. She is the creator of Monstrous Femme Films, a queer-feminist indie horror production company based in Portland, OR. Her work has screened at several prestigious festivals such as Dances with Films, Screamfest LA, Brooklyn Horror Film Festival, FilmQuest, and more, and has won several awards such as Best Director, Best Film, Best Screenplay, Best Actress, Best Production Design, and multiple Audience Choice Awards.

Hannah’s work is an amalgamation of queer and feminist horror, camp, and her love of retro design and fashion. She has a knack for creating highly stylized worlds and fascinating, complex female characters. As seen clearly in her films, Hannah is unafraid to take provocative, creative risks within the horror genre, especially when that work is taking a strong socio-political stance.

Hannah is currently in pre-production on her next horror short film, SEA LEGS, a revenge body horror set on the Oregon Coast, that follows an amateur taxidermist who uses her skills to craft a real life merman
