Fresh off the film festival circuit, we’re thrilled to present The Librarians, a gripping, deeply moving documentary about librarians thrust into the heart of America’s cultural reckoning. This film pulls back the curtain on a surge of book bans targeting essential stories about race, gender, and queerness—and shows how libraries have become unlikely battlegrounds for civil rights. Dubbed “the civil-rights fight of our time” (The Guardian) and praised for tracing this chilling wave with clear-eyed urgency, The Librarians introduces viewers to the courageous guardians of free thought.

After the film we’ll host a panel featuring Annie Lewis, Multnomah County Director of Libraries, Wendy Cornelisen, Oregon State Librarian, and the film’s producer, Janique Robillard, as they unpack what’s at stake in the fight to protect access to ideas. Love Centerwall, Executive Director of The Library Foundation, will moderate the conversation.

In Texas, the Krause List targets 850 books focused on race and LGBTQIA+ stories—triggering sweeping book bans across the U.S. at an unprecedented rate. As tensions escalate, librarians connect the dots from heated school and library board meetings nationwide to lay bare the underpinnings of White Christian Nationalism fueling the censorship efforts. Despite facing harassment, threats, and laws aimed at criminalizing their work—the librarians’ rallying cry for freedom to read is a chilling cautionary tale.
