THE EXPERIENCE

Pre-film music and performances by Do Jump company members with original music by Joan Szymko.

ON SCREEN: That Happened: A Story About Do Jump

2024. Directed by Robin Lane. Runtime: 100 mins

Dubbed as a “theater-circus-danceumentary” by director and Do Jump company founder Robin Lane, That Happened tells the life story of the Portland-based acrobatic, circus, dance troupe from its inception in 1977 through pandemic virtual performances and ultimately ending with a live filming of the troupe.

The film begins with a whirlwind journey through Do Jump live performances from 1977 through 2019. From 2020 to the present, a new element of the company’s life emerged in the form of That Happened, a physical, poignant, and zany multi-genre reflection of the evolving experiences of an ensemble of talented circus performers and musicians during the extraordinary time of the pandemic to present. Featuring performers: Nicolo Kehrwald, Patric McGuire, Kailee McMurran, Jack StockLynn, Rhys Thomas, Brittany Walsh, Jacki Ward, and Tia Zapp.

ON STAGE: Robin Lane & Do Jump Performers

Robin Lane and Do Jump are an ensemble of acrobats, dancers, circus performers, musicians, and technicians who have been making original genre-defying work together for decades. Over the years, Lane has created a wide variety of full-length theatrical productions, scores of one-of-a-kind events, as well as educational programs. The company’s works combine the sublime with the ridiculous to create an honest, if sometimes unusual, glimpse into the world we live in. Based in Portland, Oregon, the company has performed extensively throughout North America including multiple runs at the New Victory Theater on Broadway in NYC, The Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, The Ordway in St. Paul, The Geffen Playhouse in LA, and the McCallum Theater in Palm Desert.
