THE EXPERIENCE

In the spirit of our intergenerational filmmaking journey, we’re inviting everyone to create their own foam camera to decorate, play with, and take home! Just like the youth and elders in our film learned to make movies together (and utilized cameras along the way), you’ll have the chance to personalize your own keepsake camera at the premiere. Deck it out with markers, stickers, and whatever sparks your creativity, then use it as a fun photo prop throughout the evening. It’s a hands-on way to celebrate the magic of filmmaking across generations—and you’ll leave with a one-of-a-kind memento from the night!

ON SCREEN: Preservation Pictures

2025. Directed by Mary Matthews, Gal Pal Films. Runtime: 1 hours 15 minutes.

Filmed over the course of eight weeks in the Spring of 2025 in Portland, Oregon. Preservation Pictures follows a unique after-school program bringing students and elders together to connect, collaborate, and create original documentary short films. Through shared storytelling and film production co-learning, the kids of Buckman Elementary and an inspiring group of seniors set out to preserve memories, build bridges, and create community through the magic of movie making. At a time when communities can be so divided, online and off, Preservation Pictures crosses generational, digital and cultural divides that often keep us disconnected from one another in everyday life. When some of the youngest and oldest voices in a community collaborate, the art of filmmaking creates an environment of true belonging. A film to be shared and enjoyed by all ages, Preservation Pictures aims to unite generations through reel connections.
