1954. Directed by Ishirô Honda. Runtime: 96 minutes. Not rated.
Japan is thrown into a panic after several ships are sunk near Odo Island. An expedition to the island led by Dr. Yamane soon discovers something far more devastating than imagined in the form of a 50-meter-tall monster whom the natives call Gojira. Now the monster begins a rampage that threatens to destroy not only Japan, but the rest of the world as well.
ON STAGE: Joshua Cox
Joshua Cox studied Film and Fine Arts at The University of New Orleans. It was there he discovered his love for VFX, which was an enmeshing of the two. Joshua went on to work for Blur Studios in Venice Beach. Blur was working on a Deadpool teaser at the time and game cinematics for Hellgate, Halo, and Warcraft. At Blur he learned how to craft compelling shots and FX. In the mid 2000’s he moved to Portland and there began Directing music videos utilizing visual effects for the band STRFKR. He was awarded a vimeo staffpick for his film “Proximity”. Wanting to get out of the commercial space and make a move over to film he landed a VFX Supervisor role at Refuge VFX. While at Refuge VFX Joshua worked on visuals for Shogun, Fallout, The Periphreal, Cowboy Bebop, The Changeling, Manhunt, DMZ, Superman and Lois, and For All Mankind. He was also approached to be the Production Designer on the futuristic sci-fi feature “the Gallery”, which will be filmed in Oregon and directed by Devin Fei-Fan Tau.
This screening is sponsored by Woodlark Hotel Portland.
