Come try some of the very tasty foods documented in this locally created television show, including a lush cake from the Republic of Georgia courtesy of Babushka Russian Deli and Bakery and delightfully wonderful Oaxacan tatelas and a cactus salad from chef and food truck operator, Amalia Sierra.

Food Foray is a documentary series that takes us on a food journey through east Portland and Gresham produced by MetroEast Community Media. In each episode, host Jessica Thiessen goes on a tour of an international grocery store with an immigrant foodie guest. Together they cook a unique meal at the guest’s home and have intimate conversations around the table with friends and family discussing geopolitics, immigration, humor, and love. The first three episodes (20 minutes each) explore cuisines from the Republic of Georgia, Oaxaca, Mexico, and Myanmar

Jessica is a versatile performer dedicated to bringing diverse stories to life. Whether on stage, screen, or behind the scenes, she seeks projects that celebrate underrepresented voices and ignite imagination. Recent credits include “Let There Be Love” at Murphys Creek Theatre and show host of MetroEast Community Media’s film series, Food Foray. As she continues her journey, Jessica is committed to using her platform to amplify marginalized narratives and create magic for audiences from all walks of life.
Ivana is an Emmy-nominated documentary filmmaker. Originally from Bosnia and Herzegovina, she gravitates towards stories exploring identity, humanity, and humor which challenge our perceptions about the world. She works at MetroEast Community Media as a producer.
John is the head of production at MetroEast Community Media. With a previous life as a chef in UK, he has a passion for telling stories that make a difference.
Director of Photography Adolfo is a Mexican filmmaker and cinematographer currently based in Portland, Oregon. He strives to tell the stories of the underrepresented and to showcase the artistry and talents of people of different backgrounds both in front and behind the camera.
Nino fletcher was born in Tbilisi, Georgia and came to live in the U.S. after falling in love with American music in her youth. She lives with her mom and spends her free time hiking, painting or spending time with her three yorkies.
Amalia is originally from the Oaxaca region in Mexico. She runs the food cart Tiera Del Sol which has been praised for bringing Oaxacan food to Portland. You can find it at the Portland Mercado and Montavilla.
Stephen or Thet Swe, was born in Myanmar (formerly Burma). He immigrated to the U.S. after living in Singapore with his wife Honey and son Noah.
