ON SCREEN: Cheryl Dunye Short Films
1990 – 1996. Directed by Cheryl Dunye. Not Rated.
Known as the first out Black lesbian to ever direct a feature film with her 1996 film The Watermelon Woman, Cheryl Dunye’s career includes two additional features, including The Owls, and another short (Black is Blue), as well as directorial work in both film and television. Her work often concerns themes of race, sexuality, and gender, particularly issues relating to Black lesbians, and integrates documentary techniques into much of her narrative work. The Film Collaborate is thrilled to be able to team up with her once again to showcase her important work.

ON STAGE: Lesbian Cinema Club
Lesbian Cinema Club is a Portland local screening series and gathering that started in the summer of 2025 as a top surgery fundraiser for lead organizer and programmer, Noname. The series started in a backyard with a few friends with a simple goal to watch and learn about Lesbian artists and filmmakers while fundraising for gender affirming care. The series quickly became a large community gathering for local queer and lesbian film-lovers.
