THE EXPERIENCE:

Join Portland-based filmmakers, comic artists, animators, writers, and visual artists, the Pander Brothers as they present their award-winning, Portland-based feature thriller Altered Ego along with an exciting and colorful selection of their cross-media films for graphic novels, and story-driven music videos. Author Shawn Levy will introduce the program and moderate a Q&A with the brothers after the screening. This is an amazing opportunity to meet and experience two of Oregon’s most prolific indie media storytellers.

ON SCREEN: Altered Ego and other shorts

Tasty Bullet Exposed – 2012. Directed by The Pander Brothers. Runtime: 8 minutes.
This short film compiles six short videos created as part of the expanded storyworld of the manga-inspired graphic novel Tasty Bullet, co-written with author Jon Vankin and published by Image/Shadowline Comics. As part of the release, the Panders created an expansive online conspiracy hoax that included multiple websites, faux 1990s energy drink commercials from Japan, India, and Eastern Europe, and a series of anti–Tasty Bullet videos by a mysterious organization called The Fury of H.O.A.R.D.

Polycubist music video, “Check It Out!”2012. Directed by The Pander Brothers. Runtime: 3:19 minutes.
“Check It Out!” by Polycubist, featuring DJ Wicked and the B-boy breakdance crew Def Con 5, is part of the cross-media music and digital graphic novella Secret Broadcast Redux by the Pander Bros. The comic originally appeared in the first issue of Oni Press Double Feature, alongside Kevin Smith’s Jay and Silent Bob comic. Secret Broadcast follows the adventures of Toby, a pirate radio DJ who fills the airwaves with his original electronic beats while staying one step ahead of the FCC. As part of the original release, the Panders produced a pirate radio–themed electronica compilation soundtrack corresponding with track numbers throughout the comic, as well as several indie music videos that aired on MTV.

3rd Twin music video, “Honesty” – 2018. Directed by The Pander Brothers. Runtime: 4:16 minutes.
The Panders collaborated with Portland-based hip-hop artist 3rd Twin, bringing to life a dreamlike, autobiographical reflection on his painful past and drug addiction that led him to the brink of death, ultimately inspiring a poetic, lyrical journey toward emotional and spiritual sobriety.

Dandy Warhols music video, “Forever” – 2019. Directed by The Pander Brothers. Runtime: 4:48 minutes.
Told as an allegorical ghost story, the ethereal spirits of the band descend deep into the underworld to sign their souls away – forever.

Altered Ego – 2008 / 2025. Directed by The Pander Brothers. Runtime: 77 minutes.

Dylan Gray, a rising-star architect, unknowingly triggers his own downfall after mocking Wesley Stone, a deadly identity thief. As Stone targets him, Dylan’s ambitions blind him to his impending fate. Produced by Arnold Pander and directed by Jacob Pander from their original screenplay, stars Joshua Rengert, Mo Gallini (2 Fast 2 Furious, Mulholland Drive), and October Moore (PIG). Calling it “stylish, smart and compelling,” The Oregonian noted that “the Panders clearly adore Alfred Hitchcock films, and it’s not hard to imagine the master himself devising this protagonist and the way he’s done in.”
