THE EXPERIENCE

Introduced by performance artist and special guest Sarah K. Finn. Inspired by both the aesthetics and the wayward romance of the Science of Sleep, Sarah is presenting her show “The Right Thing To Be Doing” as a headlining presentation at the Risk/Reward Festival of New Performance. Join us before the film for a DIY craft activity and to see the fantastical, handmade elements of Sarah’s show – including a cargo ship that transforms into a homestead, and a large, spinning mushroom head. Before the film, Sarah will also present her short film, “Shiphead (or, efforts in boycotting my American body).”

ON SCREEN: The Science of Sleep and Shiphead

2006. Directed by Michel Gondry. Runtime: 106 minutes. Rated R.

Directed by legendary director Michel Gondry, The Science of Sleep is a surrealist romance story of a man entranced by his dreams and imagination who becomes lovestruck with a French woman and begins to feel as if he can show her his world.

Shiphead (or, efforts in boycotting my American body) – A tarp-suited figure with a cargo ship head searches across forest, city, and sea. A short film that humorously meditates on the global systems that shape—and inhabit—us.  Adapted from Finn’s solo performance, The Right Thing To Be Doing. (2025, 6 minutes)

ON STAGE: Sarah Finn
