ON STAGE: Karen Murphy
Karen Murphy is an Australian production designer now based in the United States. Originally trained in architecture, she transitioned to film after working on Baz Luhrmann’s Moulin Rouge, which cemented her commitment to the industry. She went on to art direct major films such as The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, Australia, and The Kite Runner, the latter earning her Art Directors Guild nominations. Murphy has collaborated with Luhrmann and Catherine Martin on films including The Great Gatsby and Elvis, earning recognition from BAFTA, the Art Directors Guild, and the Academy. Her production design credits also include A Star Is Born, Queen & Slim, The Light Between Oceans, Chevalier, and The Order. Recently, she designed Maggie Gyllenhaal’s The Bride! and A24’s Enemies, which is now in post-production. Karen Murphy’s expertise extends beyond film into commercials, interior design, and creative direction, showcasing her versatility in visual storytelling.
ON STAGE: Andee Hess
Andee Hess is a renowned interior designer known for concept-driven work shaped by a rigorous understanding of material, form, and spatial experience. With a background in welding and a BS in Interior Design, she founded her studio Osmose Design in Portland in 2008. Andee’s innovative perspective on spatial design and crafting unique experiences has earned her recognition within the international design community, including features in leading publications. Dubbed “Portland’s Secret Design Weapon” by Architectural Digest, Andee’s portfolio showcases work for high-profile brands and individuals. Her notable commercial clients include Stumptown, Salt & Straw, and Smith Tea. Andee believes in the transformative power of compelling environments.
