THE EXPERIENCE
Voices From the Inside: A Youth Music Video Premiere
Join Keys, Beats, Bars and Tomorrow Theater for an afternoon of live music, storytelling, and the premiere of Voices From the Inside, a powerful youth-created music video exploring the realities of the school-to-prison pipeline.
Supported by the Arts for Justice Fund, the project began with workshops led by Talilo Marfil and Mic Crenshaw inside MacLaren Youth Correctional Facility. Through guided discussions and creative writing sessions, incarcerated youth reflected on their lived experiences and collaborated to write and record an original song addressing the systems that have shaped their lives, their communities, and their futures.
Because the youth could not be filmed, Talilo transformed the project into an animated music video, ensuring their voices could be shared publicly while protecting their identities. The result is a powerful artistic work that centers the perspectives of young people directly impacted by the justice system.
Following the premiere screening, audiences will experience performances from formerly incarcerated artists Talilo Marfil, Mic Crenshaw, and Libretto, alongside Kap One and Tupen. The afternoon will also feature a live cypher led by Swiggle Mandela with music by Alley Oop featuring Machado Mijiga and Santiago Larochelle.
Through hip hop, storytelling, and community dialogue, the Restorative Justice Showcase uplifts the voices of justice-impacted youth and artists while exploring themes of accountability, resilience, healing, and transformation. This event celebrates the power of creative expression to build understanding, strengthen community, and create pathways toward a more just future.

Talilo Marfil is a West Bisayan immigrant, Filipino American hip hop artist, restorative justice advocate, and youth program leader whose work is rooted in his lived experience as a formerly incarcerated youth and adult.
After navigating the juvenile and adult justice systems, Talilo turned to music as a pathway for healing, self-expression, and transformation. For more than a decade, he has used hip hop as a tool to help young people find their voices, tell their stories, and build positive futures beyond the barriers they face.
He is the Co-Founder and Executive Director of Ascending Flow, an arts and peer advocacy program serving marginalized youth in East Portland. He also helped develop Keys, Beats, Bars, a music-based restorative justice program that brings songwriting, recording, and performance opportunities to youth inside MacLaren Youth Correctional Facility and other Oregon Youth Authority programs.
As an artist, Talilo’s music bridges culture, identity, justice, and community. His work has been supported by the Arts for Justice Fund, Oregon Community Foundation, MAP Fund, and Regional Arts & Culture Council.
